I intend for the “Docs of the Future” posts on this blog to focus on films still in development or in the works, and Steve Hoover’s upcoming documentary Blood Brother is already fully shot and has been completely funded via Kickstarter. But I don’t want to just write about it as a “Trailer” piece because it’s not as prominent as most films I simply post the trailers for, and at the moment it doesn’t have any release date or festival appearance to plug along with the spot. It is expected to come out in some form this fall, but that seems tentative and nonspecific.

Blood Brother sounds like something Documentary Channel viewers and this blog’s readers will be interested in seeing, though, which is why I’m spotlighting it and hoping that it does get festival recognition and/or distribution. The doc follows the story of Rocky Braat, a young American drifter who lent some help at an Indian orphanage for HIV-infected kids and found himself unable to leave. Though he can’t do much for them other than offer his love, this ends up being just enough in these circumstances. I expect it to be a combination of heartwarming and heartbreaking.
